A Little About Me

Hello, my name is Sharon May ‘Sharmay’ Nicol ( formley Sharmay Hughes), and I am a Sixties child born in Scotland. When I was 14 years old I moved to London, England, where I still live part of the time with my Husband and son. We still escape to Scotland a few times a year to live at the family cottage in the Highlands , since it is such a magical and inspiring place.

My passion for art has been life long. As a child, I began drawing and painting. Soon to follow was sculpting and various crafts with a particular love for fantasy art. I went on to art school, followed by interior design and architecture at North London University, working in various fields—mainly theatre and interior design projects. An illness in 2002 meant having to leave work, but enabled me to focus full time on creating fantasy sculptures and character dolls, which had always been my first love. I consider myself very lucky that things have gone full circle for me, for out of the illness came my dream. A special “thank you” to all of you who have been supportive! :)

I first discovered polymer clay in 1991 and was hooked. It was the ideal medium for me to attempt to give form to the little folk I daydreamed. I prefer to let the clay evolve into these little creatures naturally, which I believe gives them life. Sometimes one is in mind and pesters me for a week or so before I sit down knowing it is the day for them to take form. Other than that I prefer waiting to see who appears.

The fairies on this site are the first ones I have sculpted, before sticking to larger sculptures of character dolls and fantasy creatures. Scaling them down to such tiny fairies has been challenging and very exciting, and has opened up lots of ideas.

I am very pleased my little creations have already gone to homes all over the world. Hope people enjoy viewing them as much as I do creating them.

Thank you for visiting .

Fairy Blessings
Sharmay
